Family History Research is like a chain. It is only as strong as the weakest link.
If you haven’t got the evidence to prove that connection for that baptism marriage or burial you have a weak link and if you subsequently find that it is wrong all he research time and money spent following on from that link will be wasted.
It is important to check out that record to make sure it is correct before going back further from it.
An example from my own family tree are the Perkins family in Falmouth .
Research showed that .Francis Carter Gilbert married Elizabeth Perkins who was the daughter of George Perkins but there were four “George Perkin” and “George Perkins” with variation in surnames who could have been the father.
Further research in the burial register showed that the earlier George’s were all from the same family had died in infancy so that the last one had to be the ancestor.
In this case they were all siblings but often in Cornwall you can have lots of people with the same names who aren’t siblings and finding the right one can be problematic.
Infosearch can help you with your Family History by making some brief checks on some parish register entries to make sure you are on the right path
or doing some in depth research to carry your family history forward.
